Zegerid Warnings
Zegerid is a medication combining omeprazle and sodium bicarbonate. Omeprazle is one of a group of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors that limit the amount of acid the stomach produces. Sodium bicarbonate is an antacid that reduces stomach acid and enhances the use of omeprazle. Zegerid helps to relieve the symptoms of heartburn. Warnings accompany the use of the Zegerid.-
Physical Conditions

Before taking Zegerid you should advise your physician of certain conditions. These conditions influence the decision on whether or not to take the medication. Tell your physician how long you have suffered from heartburn or if you have dizziness with your heartburn. Heartburn for more than three months or when accompanied by dizziness is a symptom of stomach cancer. Zegerid contains salt so advise your physician of any restrictions on the intake of salt. Disclose any shoulder pain, chest pain, shortness of breath or other symptoms of heart problems. Let your physician know if you are pregnant, considering becoming pregnant or breastfeeding.
Dosage

Take this medication as directed by your physician. Normally this is once a day by mouth on an empty stomach and at least one hour before eating. The capsule form of Zegerid must be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. Do not open the capsule. The powder form is emptied into a cup and then mixed with water. Drink the entire dosage at once. Do not mix the capsule form with powder form; take one or the other. Also take the same strength capsule. Do not take two 20 mg instead of one 40 mg. Dosage is established for your specific heartburn and needs to be followed strictly. Follow the product instructions and seek advice from a physician or pharmacist to answer any questions.
Allergic Reaction

Allergic reactions to Zegerid may occur. The following symptoms indicate an allergic reaction: rash, itching or swelling, especially of the face, tongue or throat; severe dizziness; or trouble breathing. These reactions are rare. Stop taking the medication if any occur. Notify your physician immediately. Seek medical help or go to the emergency room.
Side Effects

Zegerid comes with warnings about possible side effects. Two rare but serious side effects include sudden weight gain and swelling of the hands and feet. Notify your physician immediately if these occur. Other side effects include dizziness, muscle aches and spasms, and weakness. Also mental problems sometimes appear including memory issues, confusion and general irritability. All side effects, whether listed or not, need to be reported to your physician.
