How to Donate a Handicap Van
There are numerous charities located throughout the country that accept vehicle donations. Donating a handicap van, however, can be more challenging. Not all organizations will accept this vehicle as it can be difficult to sell and costly to repair. The situation isn't hopeless, though, as there are a few national organizations that will gladly accept your donation of a handicap van. Your donation could be given to a family who could not otherwise afford a van or your vehicle could be used to fund programs that assist disabled individuals.Instructions

Give your handicap van to the Special Kids Fund. The Special Kids Fund will give the donated van to a family with disabled children. A family must qualify for the program based upon financial need so you can be sure that your donation is going to people who truly need it. Special Kids Fund will even accept a van that needs minor repairs. For more information, email [email protected] or call (866) 448-3865 or (732) 397-5056.

Contact Charity Cars regarding your donation. Much like the Special Kids Fund, Charity Cars provides donated vehicles, such as a handicap van, to families who are accepted into its donation program. If Charity Cars does not donate your car to a deserving family, the organization will then sell or auction the car to fund programs run by the organization. Either way, you will be eligible for a tax deduction. Call (800) 242-7489 or email [email protected] for more information.

Those in Wisconsin should call (866) 520-8267. People living outside of those two states can call (866) 390-7267.

Call local schools that specialize in educating disabled children. Many times, these schools will be looking for more vehicles in order to transport children to and from schools. You should only think about contacting these schools if your van is in good to very good condition.

Call churches in your area. Just as with schools, churches are often looking for new vehicles to transport disabled parishioners to and from Sunday services. Many churches also take disabled individuals to weekly rehabilitation and visits to their doctors. Local churches may also help you give your vehicle to a family in your area who needs a handicap accessible van.
