Ice Gripper Crutch Tips
Using crutches on icy streets is extremely difficult, as standard crutch tips often slip and slide on icy surfaces. Ice grip crutch tips replace standard tips on both forearm and underarm crutches, and these tips include a spike that is used for traction on icy surfaces. These tips also fit very tightly around the base of the crutches and include a special tread pattern for added safety. The spike can be retracted, or folded up, to prevent damage to floors when the crutches are used indoors.-
Sizes and Fit
-
Ice grip crutch tips are available in a small size to fit crutches with a shaft diameter from 1/2 to 11/16 of an inch, and in a standard size which fits crutches that have a 5/8 of an inch to 7/8 of an inch shaft diameter. The crutch tip neck is elastic so that it fits snugly around the bottom of the crutch shaft.
Spike
-
The rustproof spike is made of stainless steel. It is located in the center of each tip. It is easily extended down and retracted up so that the crutches can be used on all types of surfaces. When the spike is flipped up, the tips serve as regular crutch tips.
Other Advantages
-
Ice grip crutch tips are made of durable polyurethane and feature a rugged hexagonal tread for improved traction. A washer inside the base of the tip prevents the end of the crutch shaft from penetrating through the ice grip tip.
Appearance
-
Ice grip crutch tips are black and ribbed, with round bottoms.
Alternatives
-
Ice grip attachments are sold for crutches. These do not replace the standard tip but rather fit under it, as they are affixed around the crutch shaft rather than at the bottom. These also can be retracted when not needed, but they do not include the more durable tread that is a part of the ice grip crutch tip.
