How to Use a Hoyer Lift Device
A Hoyer Lift is a device that is designed to move people from beds to wheelchairs easily. Since they are stronger than a person, they make the process easier on both the attendant and patient. The attendant doesn't have to strain his back as much, and the patient feels more confident and secure. It is important, however, to know how to use these pieces of equipment correctly. Operating a Hoyer Lift is not particularly difficult, but it must be done properly.Instructions

Sling
-
1
Roll the patient onto her side.
-
2
Place the sling next to the patient and roll her back onto it, so that she is lying on it.
-
3
Pull the loops under her thighs.
-
4
Cross the loops. The patient is now in the sling and ready to be lifted.
The Lift
-
5
Raise the hook and unlock the wheels. Ensure that the hook is high up so that it doesn't hit your patient in the face.
-
6
Push the lift so that the legs are underneath the patient's bed. You should approach from the side.
-
7
Crank the hook closer to the patient.
-
8
Attach the sling to the hook. Ensure that the loops are still crossed, right loop to left side and vice versa.
-
9
Crank the patient up until she is suspended right over the bed. Pull the lift and patient backward, and turn her so that she's facing you. Move her to the desired location, and gently crank the lift down.
