1/2 Inch Cane Tips
At any age, a person may need a cane for any number of conditions or injuries; however, the elderly are most likely to need a cane. Until a doctor prescribes the use of a cane, most people give them little thought. Even less thought is given to the tips, also called "end caps" and "stops". Cane end width is measured by the inside diameter of the tip. End caps for ½-inch, or 13 mm, canes are available in a variety of styles.-
½-Inch Rubber Tips
-
Rubber tips are made of 100 percent natural non-skid rubber. Mount Nittany Medical Center's online health sheet titled "Fitting Your Cane" recommends, "The cane should have nonskid rubber tip(s) to prevent slipping. Change tip(s) that look worn."
½-Inch Ice Gripper Tips
-
Designed for cane safety while walking on slick or icy surfaces, gripper tips work like cleats. Stainless steel tip end prongs grip the ice to provide stability and help prevent falls.
½-Inch Pivoting Tips
-
Pivoting tips grab the floor while the cane tilts and rotates 30 degrees, which can aid wobbling hands. Pivoting tips provide traction and shock absorption to help prevent slips and falls and increase surface contact.
½-Inch Expanding Cane Tips
-
Expanding tips fit several size cane shafts (the straight or middle part). A 14 mm shaft end tip will stretch to 16 mm.
½-Inch Self-standing Cane Tips
-
Self-standing cane tips eliminate the need for quad or four-legged canes. The self-standing tip has a wide base and is designed so that if it falls over, a light press on it with the side of your foot brings the cane upright so you need not bend over. The cane stands on its own when it's not in use, even on carpet.
