VA Disability Review Information

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers various resources to the country’s veterans. One of these resources includes VA Disability. VA Disability awards disability benefits to veterans suffering from a service-related handicap.
  1. Application

    • VA Disability applications can be found online at the Department of Veterans Affairs’ website. Paper applications can be requested by calling 1-800-827-1000.

    Process

    • Once you submit your application, your case will be assigned to a Rating Veteran Service Representative, who reviews the medical evidence of your disability to determine whether or not you deserve disability benefits. Oftentimes your case representative will request you to undergo a medical examination.

    Medical Examination

    • In the medical examination the examiner will inquire about your disability, asking questions like “How did you obtain this disability?” and “How does the disability affect your day-to-day life?” The length of the medical examination depends on the number of disabilities being analyzed and the type of disability, as psychiatric disabilities tend to take longer to assess, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

    Additional Evidence

    • Your Rating Veteran Service Representative will typically review your military records and medical records, in order to determine whether or not you should be granted VA Disability.

    Appeals

    • If your disability application gets rejected, you can make an appeal. The Board of Veterans’ Appeals re-evaluate appealed disability applications to determine if any rejections should be overturned.
