The Deaf Children Australia Youth Grants was instituted in 2000 after two existing trusts--the Nelson & Brook Education Trust and the Cecilia & Allen Tye Trust--were combined. Deaf Children Australia then matches funding dollar by dollar. The purpose of the grants is to give attention and recognition to the achievements of young deaf people throughout Australia and to point up the contribution these individuals are able to make to society in general.
Grants can be up to $2,000, and are meant only for Australian citizens between the ages of 15 to 21 years. These individuals are obviously required to be deaf or hard of hearing.
