What Is a Pending SSI Application?
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a program by the Social Security Administration (SSA) designed to provide assistance to low-income elderly and disabled individuals. A pending SSI application refers to an application for SSI currently under review by SSA.-
Types

SSI applications may be pending after the initial application and after appeals. The application review steps include a review after the initial approval of your application, a review after an appeal hearing with an administrative law judge (ALJ), a review by a different ALJ if the first judge denies SSI benefits and a review by a federal appellate court.

Obtain an application for SSI benefits from your local SSA office or complete one online at ssa.gov. SSA's website includes a search engine for locating your local SSA office.
Sections

The sections of a pending SSI application include applicant identification section, a medical history section and a work and education history section.
About You

The "about you" section includes your full name, social security number, telephone number and questions regarding your disability and how it prevents you from working. Information about your disability is not necessary if you are applying for SSI on the basis of age (65 and older).
Medical History

The medical history section includes questions about your medical providers, including the name, address and telephone number, a listing of medical tests and diagnoses and a list of prescription and non-prescription medications that the applicant currently takes.
Work and Education History

The work and education history section requires listing all types of jobs worked in the past 15 years prior to developing your disability, a description of each job and a listing of all education and training obtained. This section is not necessary for individuals applying for SSI benefits on the basis of age.
