Dysbiosis Diet Foods to Avoid
-
Sugar and Bacteria Growth
-
Sugar products should be avoided since they encourage the growth of bacteria. These include white sugar, beet and cane sugar, honey, molasses, corn syrup and maple syrup. Tropical fruits and all fruit juices should also be avoided since they contain the sugar fructose. Some high-sugar vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, yams, agave, plantain and prickly pears should also be excluded. Melons are okay in moderation, as are summer fruits like peaches and berries. However, be sure to check all fruit for signs of browning or mold before eating.
Animal Products
-
Any animal product such as cheese or yogurt which requires mold or bacteria ripening should be excluded from the diet. However, fresh cheeses such as cottage and ricotta cheese are permissible.
Grains
-
Exclude white grains from the diet, such as white wheat flour, white rye flour and white rice. Instead, eat whole grain and multi-grain products. Whole grains are better for your health in general.
Miscellaneous
-
Beverages containing alcohol should be avoided, as should hard cider and brewer's yeast. Artificial sweeteners and products containing artificial sweeteners should also be avoided. Watch out for foods that contain artificial colors and flavorings as well. Vinegar, hydrogenated oils and deep-fried foods can also worsen your condition, so steer clear of these while on a dysbiosis diet.
Exceptions
-
Wild and domestic mushrooms are okay to eat, but should be consumed with moderation. You may also eat a limited amount of tuna and swordfish, but not in excess since they are known to contain high levels of mercury. Caffeine, chocolate, black tea and coffee are also permissible in moderation.
