Heart Disease & Neck Pain

There are a variety of symptoms to indicate the onset of heart diseases, and neck pain is one of them. Age and sex are not a factor when it comes to being prone to heart disease; however, women are more likely to have neck pain as an indication of heart illness than men.     • If you are a professional caretaker, then you know that in the case of severe neck pains and the manifestation of multiple symptoms, a full-blown attack may be on the way. Call for help; until it arrives, if your patient is unconscious, check for a pulse. If there is a heartbeat but no breathing, feel inside the patient's mouth for any obstruction. If there is neither breathing nor a pulse, you can be sure the patient has gone into cardiac arrest. If you manage to resuscitate the patient on your own, keep her calm and warm until help arrives.

    • Neck pain is considered an atypical symptom, and those suffering from heart illnesses may experience neck pains ranging from severe and shooting pains to a dull persistent ache. Often it is accompanied with other atypical symptoms such as uneasiness, pain in the back and pain in the jaws.

    Things to Remember If You Experience Neck Pain

    • Neck pain is not a primary sign of a deathly heart illness. It is often caused by angina. But it makes sense to have a doctor evaluate a persistent neck pain if you have never been diagnosed with heart problems. If you are prone to heart attacks, relax when you feel a neck pain coming on and get help. Ask your doctor if an aspirin a day to help thin blood and promote circulation will benefit you.
