Urinary Incontinence as a Side Effect of Lasix

Lasix is the generic name of the drug furosemide. It is a water pill that is used to treat swelling caused by water retention as a result of liver disease, kidney disease and high blood pressure. It helps the kidneys release excess water and salt into the urine.
  1. Urinary Incontinence

    • An inability to hold back urine is a side effect of Lasix as the drug promotes urination. Medline Plus says that frequent urination can last up to six hours after taking a dose of Lasix but that should only last for a few weeks into the treatment. If urinary incontinence is severe or impossible to deal with, contact your doctor.

    Other Side Effects

    • Common side effects of Lasix may be dehydration, weakness, dizziness, vomiting, blurred vision, nausea and constipation.

    Serous Side Effects

    • If you experience any of the following side effects contact your doctor immediately: sore throat, serious rash, peeling skin, excessive weight loss, bleeding, fever, bruising or hearing loss.

    Nursing Mothers

    • Nursing mothers should not take Lasix as it can be secreted into breast milk.
