Signs of Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a disease that commonly targets the lungs. Other areas of the body may be affected by tuberculosis as well, and death can be the result if it isn't treated effectively. TB, as it is known, is an infectious disease, and mycobacterium tuberculosis is the germ that causes it. If you exhibit any of the following signs of tuberculosis, seek medical help immediately.
  1. Lung Problems

    • The tuberculosis bacteria can grow in different parts of the body. When it grows in the lungs, a cough may be present and last for more than three weeks, and there may also be chest pain and evidence of blood or phlegm coming from the lungs upon coughing.

    Lethargy

    • A person who has tuberculosis may feel tired and weak all the time.

    Loss of Appetite and Weight

    • Someone who has tuberculosis may notice that he no longer has a desire to eat and may lose weight rapidly.

    Temperature and Chills

    • A prolonged fever accompanied by chills is another sign that someone may be infected with tuberculosis.

    Sweating

    • A person with tuberculosis may wake up during the night to find his clothes damp from sweating.

    Testing

    • Signs of tuberculosis may be revealed through a skin or blood test, a sputum smear or culture, or a chest x-ray.
