Signs & Symptoms of Abdominal Lymphoma
Abdominal lymphoma is basically a form of cancer that is located somewhere within the lymphoid tissue or lymphatic system of the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, that means the immune system cancer could be in the stomach, the intestines, or even in the liver, so the signs and symptoms of this type of cancer will vary according to the location in the body that contains the cancerous cells.-
Castleman's Disease: one abdominal lymphoma type
-
One type of abdominal lymphoma is Castleman's Disease. This disease can be found in one of the lymph nodes (unicentric) or more than one lymph node--or even the lymphatic tissues--within the abdomen (multicentric). Common symptoms of both of these types generally include fever, loss of weight and night sweats.
Additional symptoms for unicentric and multicentric
-
Additional symptoms of unicentric are anemia and difficulty in breathing (or eating) because of pressure or fullness felt in the abdomen. Additional symptoms of multicentric include hand or feet numbness, fatigue, enlarged spleen, lymph nodes or liver, and malaise.
Stomach cancer: another abdominal lymphoma type
-
Another type of abdominal lymphoma is stomach cancer. There are basically four types of stomach cancer and lymphoma is one of them. This type of cancer is rare in the United States, but is very common in less-developed countries.
It is believed that crowded living conditions and poor drinking water contributes to contracting a bacterium named H. pylori, which develops into an infection and can result in the development of this type of cancer. Symptoms of this type of cancer are so similar to other gastrointestinal problems, though, that it is often misdiagnosed--and treatment for the incorrect diagnosis started--before the cancer is found.
Stomach cancer symptoms
-
Symptoms can include a feeling of fullness (or being bloated) even after only eating a small meal, experiencing heartburn, indigestion or stomach pain. Thus it is easy to confuse these symptoms with other possible gastrointestinal problems. In addition, vomiting and nausea (also symptoms of food poisoning) may be experienced too, as well as fatigue and loss of weight.
Fruits, vegetables and stomach health
-
Most people do not get enough fruits and vegetables in their daily diet, especially if they eat at fast food restaurants, where vegetables are rarely promoted at all, except for the high-fat potato version known as the french fry. But fruits and vegetables help the stomach and gastrointestinal tract to operate more effectively, which helps to aid the immune system in fighting off any abnormalities or bacteria that are ingested. Therefore, getting the recommended daily allowance of these two items is one preventive measure against abdominal lymphoma.
