Adrenal Crisis Symptoms

The adrenal gland regulates production of certain hormones in the human body. When this hormone production becomes abnormal, the body experiences adrenal crisis, which sometimes leads to Addison's disease.

    • Symptoms of adrenal crisis including fatigue, nausea, anorexia, weakness, vomiting, abdominal pain, hypoglycemia and hypertension.

    Identification

    • Adrenal crisis is when the adrenal gland, located near the kidneys, fails to produce and regulate hormones, including catecholamine and adrenaline.

    Significance

    • Severe cases of adrenal crisis are known to trigger Addison's disease, which is caused by the adrenal gland failing to produce the necessary hormones in children and adults.

    Treatment

    • Untreated adrenal crisis triggers Addison's disease, which can be fatal; a physician must be consulted in order to receive the correct treatment.
