Rhabdomyolysis Symptoms

Rhabdomyolysis is a condition that occurs when injury to muscle causes a large quantity of liquid composed of damaged cells to invade the bloodstream. These cells can cause irreparable harm to organs, leading to kidney failure and cardiac arrhythmia. Rhabdomyolysis can be caused by a number of traumas and has several symptoms associated with the syndrome.
  1. Primary Symptom

    • A severe change in urine color is the most common symptom of the condition. Urine color becomes dark, brown or red due to the toxins in the body.

    Location

    • Centralized weakness of the muscles affected by the trauma paired with tenderness or aching occurs soon after a physical event. Swelling of the muscle is also possible.

    Effects

    • Physical changes occur as a result of the change inside the body. Weight gain as well as weakness and fatigue are common signs of the syndrome.

    Hidden Symptoms

    • Internal symptoms such as inability of the blood to clot, decreased blood supply and low blood pressure are caused by the muscles becoming compressed.

    Other Causes

    • In addition to physical trauma, rhabdomyolysis can be caused by medications, poisons and abuse of illegal narcotics. Toxins in tainted food can also bring on the condition.
