Practice proper food combining for improved digestion. This is a controversial subject among nutritionists. However, many holistic practitioners suggest not combining proteins and carbohydrates since they each require a different chemical environment for digestion. Proteins require an acidic environment, while carbohydrates digest well in an alkaline environment. Combine vegetables and proteins or vegetables and carbohydrates, as vegetables can digest in either an alkaline or acidic environment. You may combine fruits with vegetables or carbohydrates.
