How is seborrheic dermatitis diagnosed?
In some cases, a biopsy may be performed to rule out other skin conditions that can cause similar symptoms. A biopsy involves removing a small piece of skin for examination under a microscope.
Dermatoscopy (also called skin scraping) may also be used to examine the affected area more closely. This procedure involves using a magnifying lens and bright light to look at the skin.
Other diagnostic tests that may be considered include:
- Fungal culture: This test can check for a fungal infection that may be present along with seborrheic dermatitis.
- Blood tests: These tests can help rule out other medical conditions that may be causing the skin symptoms.
