What diseases can caused by Campylobacter jejuni?
Campylobacter jejuni is a Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, microaerophilic bacterium. C. jejuni is a leading cause of bacterial gastroenteritis, commonly referred to as food poisoning, in many countries. It is usually transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food, such as raw or undercooked poultry, unpasteurized milk, or untreated water, and can also be spread via contact with animals or their feces. C. jejuni infection typically causes symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea (which may be bloody), fever, and nausea, and usually lasts for 2-5 days. In severe cases, C. jejuni infection can lead to complications such as Guillain-Barré syndrome, which is an autoimmune disorder that can cause temporary paralysis, reactive arthritis, and irritable bowel syndrome.
