How to Test for Bat Rabies
Bats aren't the most common animal, but some people may have them around their yard. If this is the case, you have to be careful about the potential of being bitten, especially if you suspect that the bat has rabies. If you are bitten by a bat it is important to get medical attention immediately, and testing the bat that bit you may be helpful. When capturing the bat you must take safety precautions and prevent coming in contact with it. Often, collecting a bat for testing is not advised because of the risk.Things You'll Need

Scoot the box or can to the edge of the landing area and quickly slide the piece of cardboard under it.
-
3
Tape the cardboard securely to the box or can. Puncture two small holes in the cardboard to allow air for the bat to breathe.

4
Contact the local public health agency if the bat has come in contact with a person injuring them, or your local public health veterinarian if the bat has come in contact with an animal. The public health department will let you know whether the bat needs to be tested and the procedures that will be taken.
