Lexapro for Fibromyalgia Pain

Lexapro is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that restores the balance of natural chemicals in the brain. It is often used to treat fibromyalgia pain because of the role it plays in adjusting serotonin levels.

    • Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain and tender pressure points. Pain severity fluctuates daily; flare-ups may be due to depleted serotonin levels.

    Lexapro

    • The main purpose of Lexapro is to correctly balance the body's neurotransmitters, including serotonin. Since serotonin is largely responsible for mood and temperament, balancing the levels in the body is imperative in the treatment of anxiety or depression. However, because of the pain management function of serotonin, Lexapro may also be approved to treat fibromyalgia pain.

    Drug Information

    • Lexapro is an oral medication that is taken once or twice daily and must be prescribed. The dosage is dependent on the medical condition.
