How to Commit Someone for Drug Abuse

Watching a person, especially a loved one, destroy his life by abusing drugs is painful and difficult. This is challenging, especially if a person refuses to enter a rehab facility. No matter how much the addict resists, it's most beneficial for the addict to do as much as possible to get the individual help. Even though one cannot legally commit another to rehab, a person can do various things to get the addict help.

Instructions

  1. Intervention and Rehab

Conduct an intervention. Since an drug addict cannot be forced by another person to enter a rehabilitation facility, unless ordered by the law, family members and loved ones should come together with the addict and discuss specific events and factual occurrences in which the drug abuse has caused issues and serious problems. The loved ones or family members present at the intervention should lovingly, yet firmly, let the addict know that they can no longer accept the drug abuse and the destruction of the addict's life.

Suggest and highly recommend that the addict enter a full-time rehabilitation program. After, or even sometimes during, the intervention explain to the addict that professional help is required in order to overcome the drug abuse and addiction. It may be beneficial to even have a professional to assist in recommending the addict enter rehab.

Accompany the drug addict to the rehabilitation facility. The addict will need to feel supported and loved as she makes this difficult decision. Remind the addict that she will receive this continued support by the family, friends and loved ones being there for as little or as much as the addict wants and needs.

Continue supporting the addict through the rehabilitation program. During the addict's stay at a rehab facility, it's important to continue to communicate, if it is approved by the counselors and doctors at the facility.
