Buy the mini Lozenges that are recommended for you. If you smoke your first cigarette 30 minutes or more after waking in the morning, use the 2 mg mini Lozenges. If you smoke your first cigarette within 30 minutes of waking, use the 4 mg mini Lozenges.

Start your Nicorette program. Mark the day on your calendar. It is recommended that you start first thing in the morning, but if you have a cigarette the first day, wait at least 30 minutes before taking your first mini Lozenge. Do not smoke while you are on the Nicorette program. Throw your cigarettes away. Take one mini Lozenge every one to two hours when you are awake for the first six weeks, preferably when you feel the urge to smoke (but 15 minutes after eating).

Sign up for the Nicorette support program. You can sign up for "My Quit Plan" on the Nicorette web site.

During weeks seven to nine, take one mini Lozenge every two to four hours. During weeks 10 to 12, take one mini Lozenge every four to eight hours. After week 12, you are finished with the program. Do not take any more Nicorette products at this time. You should be able to quit using the amount of nicotine you have been taking in the final stage with minimal withdrawal symptoms.
