Problems Due to Drinking

Although alcohol is a legal substance, it can cause a plethora of problems if it is abused, including, but not limited to, problems with an individual's family, career, relationships, love life, finances and health. These problems can really get out of control of they are not handled.
  1. Relationship Problems

    • Often when a person in a serious relationship has a dependence on alcohol, problems are going to occur within the relationship. Alcohol lowers inhibitions and causes people to act in a way that they wouldn't otherwise act. This can cause many problems to surface in a relationship, such as jealousy, mistrust, infidelity and sometimes even violence.

    Finances

    • People who drink often or heavily likely have financial problems due to their alcohol use. Alcohol, both at the store and at a bar, is expensive and the cost of the use adds up. In addition, a person who abuses alcohol is likely unable to keep a job, and therefore their financial situation suffers.

    Family

    • Drinking can cause many problems in a person's family life. Some of these problems are immediate, such as affecting the family by being unreliable or untrustworthy, or even hurting the family's financial situation. Additionally, studies have shown that children whose parents are alcoholics are more likely to suffer from self-esteem issues. Alcoholism is also often linked to genetics, which may cause problems for children or other relatives down the line.

    Health

    • Drinking alcohol can take a toll on the body as well. Alcohol abuse is linked with pancreatitis, heart disease, cancer, liver disease and cirrhosis, to name a few. All of these are very serious illnesses that can cause many health problems. Some other possible long-term health problems associated with alcohol include loss of brain cells, nerve damage, sexual problems, skin problems and obesity.
