How to Tell If Someone Has a Substance Abuse Problem
Without catching someone in the act of using a controlled substance, there are signs that can suggest possible use. These signs can be physical and can vary depending on the substance being abused. Because physical symptoms can be associated with other issues, such as stress, it is also important to note significant changes in someone's behavior, appearance, personality or attitude.Instructions

Notice if there are distinct changes in the person's daily life. Is there is a significant increase or decrease in appetite, new groups of friends, lying, loss of interest in hobbies, lack of motivation or frequent borrowing of money? Another obvious sign is the presence of drug paraphernalia or empty bottles.
