Government Programs Based on Income for Pain Killer Rehab Centers

Painkiller rehab and other types of drug rehab treatment programs are widely available, but the cost can be prohibitive for some people. Fortunately, several government-funded drug and alcohol treatment programs exist. Also available are government programs designed to provide funding for those who wish to attend private treatment facilities.
  1. Medicare

    • Medicare is a federally funded program to help individuals age 65 and older, those who are permanently disabled and unable to work, and others who meet the qualifying criteria based on need and income. Medicare pays for all or part of the costs of essential medical services, including drug and alcohol addiction treatment at facilities that accept Medicare. Most people 65 and older or who are on permanent disability can qualify for some type of Medicare assistance, although this amount will vary based on their income. Many private and state-run painkiller rehab centers and drug treatment facilities accept Medicare.

    Medicaid

    • Many state-run drug and alcohol treatment and rehab facilities, as well as private treatment facilities accept Medicaid, a government-funded program for low-income individuals that pays for health-related treatment and services. Unlike Medicare, Medicaid qualifications and benefits are determined by individual states. To qualify for Medicaid, individuals must meet the income guidelines for their state. If they qualify, all or part of their treatment costs may be paid for through Medicaid.

    State-Run Facilities

    • State-run drug and alcohol treatment facilities and rehab centers are designed to be affordable for low-income individuals and operate on a sliding scale for those who have little or no insurance coverage and/or can't pay for rehab costs out of pocket. Some facilities are completely free for qualifying individuals who cannot afford to pay. In California, for example, there are more than 2,000 state-run drug and alcohol treatment centers. Treatment centers especially for men, women, teenagers and other demographic groups, are also available.
