Seven Day Alcohol Treatment

Alcoholism is a serious condition that requires lifelong commitment to combat. The most successful are those who actively battle the disease every day, using friends, family and medical professionals as their support group.
  1. Detoxification

    • As the alcohol leaves your system, you may experience withdrawal symptoms.

Whether you choose to do so at home or in a hospital setting, the first step to quitting drinking is to get all the alcohol out of your system. In a hospital, medical staff can watch over you and observe your recovery. At home, it is easiest to detox if you have loved ones looking after you and helping you. No one needs to go through this alone. It may take a few days to accomplish this.

    Avoidance

    • To make your journey easier, stick to cafes and restaurants without a liquor license when eating out.

Clear your home of any alcoholic substance. Don't visit bars or restaurants with a liquor license, especially in the first seven days. Try to go out with supportive friends who will keep you from consuming a drink after the hard work of detoxifying your body is done.

    Support Groups

    • Leaning on other people for support will help you overcome alcoholism.

As soon as you decide to quit drinking, join a support group in your area. Alcoholics Anonymous is the most well-known, but each community has its own local variations if you'd prefer support elsewhere. Keep in contact with this group. Use them to further your own journey and help other members with their journey. When surrounded by people who understand what you're going through, you'll feel less alone.
