Clenbuterol Death
There are many ways in which Clenbuterol, sometimes called “Clen,” causes death. It may be laced into illicit drugs, used for weight loss or producing leaner cattle. Death can occur from any of these uses— including consuming animals given Clenbuterol.-
Clenbuterol Controversy
-
In the U.S., Clenbuterol is not prescribed for humans. It is only approved for use to treat airway obstruction in horses. Outside of the U.S., it treats bronchial asthma in humans.
Clenbuterol for Livestock
-
Clenbuterol repartitions livestock. This means that it increases an animal’s ability to convert food into muscle. This produces leaner livestock. The effects of the drug, however, remain in the meat and cases of illnesses can occur if tainted meat is ingested.
Clenbuterol as a Fat Burner
-
Clenbuterol is used by athletes because it is a beta-2 agonist. This means that it stimulates beta-2 receptors. This stimulation helps the body to release and burn more stored fat.
Clenbuterol and Illicit Drugs
-
Street drugs such as heroin and cocaine can be tainted with Clenbuterol. When this occurs, hospitalization is required immediately and will last up to several days.
Effects
-
Aside from death, use of Clenbuterol results in increased heart rate, nervousness, headache, muscular tremor, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fever and chills for approximately up to six days. Clenbuterol is most abused by athletes in the U.S. The combination of Clenbuterol, coupled with the effects of strenuous exercise which accelerates heart rate is fatal.
