Christian Living Homes for Drug Abuse in Columbia, Tennessee
-
History
-
This treatment facility came about through the partnership of a medical doctor and a local reverend who teamed up to open a 26 bed psychiatric and drug rehabilitation center within Maury Regional Medical Center in 1988. This model was successful until 1997 when the hospital-based component was closed. In the same year the men established a non-profit ministry, Place of Hope, which began treating people again in-house in 2000.
Services
-
Currently, Place of Hope offers the following services to the community: Addiction and mental health evaluation and assessment, residential, intensive or day treatment addiction recovery programs, a halfway house, family treatment programs, adult basic education and a variety of other aftercare programs.
Homeless Shelter and Soup Kitchen
-
In addition to the halfway house and the other transitional housing offered to those who are served by Place of Hope, there is also a homeless shelter that allows transient people to receive services such as job training and life planning skills. Their soup kitchen serves hot lunches to the poor and elderly of the community five days a week.
Disabled Housing
-
Low income residents of Maury County who have documented disabilities are eligible to live in Village of Hope, which is the facility's 15-unit apartment community. While living here, individuals also receive access to many of the services that Place of Hope offers. Housing is provided to the disabled to allow them to live as independently as possible.
