How to Eliminate Ear Mucus

Ear mucus, also known as ear wax, is beneficial and healthy for the ear canal because it works to maintain a pH balance to inhibit growth of certain bacteria and fungi. However, ear mucus in some individuals can become problematic when it produces too much wax, interfering with hearing and causing chronic ear ringing, ear aches, and plugged ears. The best way to eliminate ear mucus is to create an ear canal-safe solution that can drain out excess mucus without damaging the eardrum.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the eye dropper to place 1 to 2 drops of mineral or olive oil into the ear, tilting the head slightly to allow the oil to drain down the ear canal. Repeat this process every night for a week to fully loosen the ear mucus.

    • 2

Fill the rubber ball ear syringe with lukewarm tap water. Remove ear mucus by gently inserting the ear syringe into the ear canal and then squeezing. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to the syringe as it can damage the eardrum.

    • 3

Tilt the head over a sink to let the water drain out of the ear to release small clumps of ear mucus.

    • 4

When the ear mucus has been fully removed from the canal, wipe the outside of the ear off with a towel, or use a hair-dryer on low heat to completely dry the inner and outer ear. Make sure to completely dry the ear because dampness can create fungal ear infections.

Use the eye dropper to put 1 to 2 small drops of rubbing alcohol into the ears, tilting the head so that the alcohol can drain out from the ear. Rubbing alcohol is one of the safest and best solutions because it can kill germs that cause ear infections and can evaporate dampness in the ear.
