Glycerin Ear Wax Removal

Everyone's ears produce earwax, and this is a good thing. Experts say that earwax preforms valuable functions such as trapping dirt, keeping ear canals moist, and keeping insects out. However, too much earwax can be a problem, and can lead to lead to irritation and hearing impairment. One common method for removing hardened or impacted ear wax is to use glycerin.

    • You will need to glycerin, an eye dropper, and a cotton ball.

Take the eye dropper and draw up some glycerin. Tilt your head to the side, with the affected ear facing upwards. Squeeze the eye dropper gently until you have three to four drops of glycerin in your ear.

Leave the cotton ball and glycerin in your ear overnight. Sleep with a towel on your pillow when performing this procedure to keep your linens clean. When you shower the next day remove the cotton ball and gently rinse your ear, letting it drain all the while. Repeat this procedure until desired wax softens and dislodges. Often it should only take one attempt. If you experience difficulty, irritation or pain see a doctor immediately.
