Natural Treatment to Get Rid of Fluid in Ears

Having fluid in your ears usually means there is some type of infection. This can be a painful and dizzying experience, because problems in the ears tend to cause problems with hearing and balance. There are many natural remedies you can try to get rid of fluid in the ear.
  1. About

    • There are three parts to an ear: the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear. A blockage of the Eustachian tube in the middle ear usually leads to a buildup of fluid. Fluid in the ear means that a watery or mucous-like fluid has built up behind the eardrum. This usually happens during allergies, a cold or an upper respiratory infection. Sometimes the buildup of fluid can cause pressure, which leads to earaches, swelling or redness.

    Home Remedies

    • Try lying your ear on a heating pad. This helps to moisten the fluid in the ear and relieves some of the pain.

Put a few drops of garlic juice in your ear. Blow dry the ear with a blow dryer but be careful to be at least 12 inches from the head. This remedy will dry up all the water that is trapped in the ear.

Extract the juice from an onion and put a few drops into the ear. After a minute, lay on your side to allow the juice to exit the ear. Repeat until the clogging caused by the fluid is cleared. You can also use apple cider vinegar similarly.

Mix together rubbing alcohol and vinegar. Put two drops in the infected ear once a week. The alcohol will help to dry up the fluid while the vinegar works to destroy bacteria.

Chewing gum may help to loosen up the fluid in the ear and relieve pain.

Try swallowing as hard as you can. Swallowing can open up the Eustachian tubes and the fluid usually comes right out. Repeat the swallowing as much as is needed.

Put a drop of tea tree oil in your ear. This helps to prevent bacteria from growing and staves off infections.

    Prevention

    • To keep fluid in the ear from reoccurring, keep in mind a few simple steps to take.

Make sure you stay away from cigarette smoke.

Try to avoid being around other people that are sick with a cold or flu.

Avoid getting water in your ears when showering or bathing. Also, do not go swimming if you have fluid in your ears.

As always, if the symptoms do not improve or get worse, please visit your doctor for immediate medical care.
