Reasons for Earache
Earaches are a painful condition that contributes to other sinus cavity problems and to excessive crying in children. Knowing the common causes of earaches can help you and your family to avoid them.-
Ear damage
-
Damage or trauma to the ears is a common cause of ear pain in children. Keep small objects away from toddlers and seek medical attention immediately if you suspect your little one has placed a foreign object in his ears.
Ear infections
-
Ear infections are caused when bacteria get in the inner ear through the eustachian tube, a tube that connects the ear with the back of the throat. Respiratory infections or allergies may block the tube and prevent normal drainage, allowing bacteria to grow and multiply.
Ear Wax
-
Wax buildup in the ears can increase pressure and prevent normal drainage from occurring. Have your ears cleaned annually in your physician's office to prevent unnecessary wax buildup.
Swimmer's Ear
-
Swimmer's ear occurs when an excess amount of water has gotten into the ear canal. Keep your ears dry by wearing plugs when swimming or in the shower, and do not pour any liquid into your ears.
Hearing Loss
-
Earaches that are accompanied by hearing loss or a ringing in the ears could be signs of ear trauma, especially if you have suffered a head injury. Seek medical attention immediately to avoid being permanently affected.
