What Is Good for a Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is a condition of the ears where sounds are heard consistently, such as ringing, hissing or static. It can be a very unnerving problem, especially if the sounds are loud and disrupt your hearing. Tinnitus can develop from different problems, including injury. It can also manifest in different degrees, from intermittent to a constant irritation. There are treatments to help alleviate some of the interference, if not all of it.
  1. Tinnitus Therapy Treatment

    • Tinnitus therapy treatment is the process of desensitizing your ears to the sounds generated inside. One of the most significant methods of desensitizing is by using a sound generator. A sound generator helps you by decreasing the levels of sound over a period of time, typically a couple of months. The sounds will start off at a louder decibel--the loudest you can stand. The sounds are introduced into the ear, and gradually reduced over time.

Every time the sound is changed, the octave is reduced by six decibels. The signal band is broad, and similar to the noises that you would hear every day in the world. Once you get used to the level of a particular sound, the level is changed. This happens until you are accustomed to your tinnitus.

    Home Remedies

    • There are home remedies that may help you get your tinnitus under control or quieten the noises in your ears. One method of treatment you can do from home is to wear ear plugs. Wearing ear plugs may help to lessen the ringing or static sounds generated from tinnitus. Gingko bilboa is another treatment that has shown promise. Putting gingko bilboa into your ears for 4 to 6 weeks will help to increase the blood flow to the ears. Increased blood flow can help reduce the effects of tinnitus.

Another home remedy is to listen to soothing music through ear plugs at night. Most people may not notice the ringing in the daytime as much as they do at night. Daytime noises can help drown out inner ear noises, but the quiet at bedtime can make them seem louder. Soothing music can help your brain focus on the music rather than the noises from the inner ear.

    Find the Source

    • Tinnitus can be caused by so many different sources that one of the keys to treatment is to find the source. Some of the outside sources are injury, medications, stress, infection, heavy exercise, hearing loss and high blood pressure. Finding the source can help you to manage your tinnitus. It may take some research and detective work to discover what causes and initiates episodes of tinnitus.

Once the source has been found, you can begin to either eliminate the problem, or work to resolve it. If there is an infection causing your tinnitus, your doctor can help you to clear it up. If stress is behind your tinnitus, you can work on relieving it with stress relievers, such as yoga, soothing music or meditation. If high blood pressure has initiated tinnitus, your doctor can work with you to get it under control.
