Inner Ear Disorder

There are many problems and disorders involving the inner ear. Vertigo, tinnitus and Meniere's disease are among a few.
  1. Vertigo vs. Dizziness

    • Vertigo is the feeling that you're spinning or that the room is spinning. Dizziness is feeling lightheaded. It is important to remember that all vertigo comes with dizziness, but dizziness doesn't necessarily come with vertigo.

    Cause of Vertigo

    • The cause of vertigo is an improperly functioning semi-circular canal. This can be due to infection, inflammation or scarring.

    Symptoms of Vertigo

    • Symptoms of vertigo include a strong feeling of moving or spinning when you are still. The feeling might be made worse by head movements. Vertigo is not constant and usually comes and goes.

    Tinnitus

    • Tinnitus, or noise in the ears, is a common problem with inner ear disorders. The noise in the ear may be heard on and off. It may be heard as buzzing, ringing or hissing.

    Meniere's Disease

    • Meniere's disease is a disorder with episodes of vertigo, hearing loss and a sense of fullness in the affected ear. The cause of Meniere's disease is not known.
