Herbs for Curing Fluid in the Ears
Finding a cure for fluid in the ears raises the question about the usage of herbs for a solution. Carefully evaluate the situation before choosing a course of action, but loss of hearing may be one of the first indications of a problem and should not be taken lightly.-
Identification
-
Hearing difficulties may arise from fluid in the ears. It sounds like water swishing in the head. It also creates a pressure or a sense of being stuffed up in the head. When fluid causes these sensations in the ear coughing, yawning or swallowing will not relieve them.
Causes
-
Fluid in the ear usually develops from a cold, but in children it may be caused by a short Eustachian tube. This condition may lead to Otitis Media with Effusion, known as OEM or a middle ear infection, but not always. A doctor may not prescribe medication or any type of treatment for fluid in the ears.
Considerations
-
The use of herbs and time will often clear up the fluid in the ear. Some herbs alleviate the fluid while others diminish the symptoms. If there are other symptoms like a high fever, a yellow, brown or white drainage, or a loss of appetite do not use herb treatments and see a doctor.
Types
-
Commonly used for ear pain is Echinacea root. When taken like an antibiotic three to four times a day, it not only works on the fluid but also builds up the immune system. Echinacea root can be taken in a liquid glycerin extract form or by boiling dry astragalus root into soup. However for immediate relief from the ear pressure place warm oil extract drops of willow bark, garlic or mullein flowers into the ear canal.
Warning
-
Be sure to follow the instructions carefully on any herbal products used. Do not dispense herbs into the ear canal if drainage begins to appear. This indicates a possible rupture in the eardrum and the use of herbs could cause severe damage and possibly permanent hearing loss. See a physician if fluid appears.
