Inner Ear Infection Remedy

An ear infection can be painful, but it can be treated at home with several easy remedies. The pain also can come from water retention, residue such as shampoo, or from ear wax that has been pushed into the ear canal with a cotton swab.
  1. Warm Olive Oil

    • Heated olive oil can help relieve ear infection pain. Pour a small amount of olive oil into a microwave-safe bowl and heat for just a few second until olive oil is warm. The oil should not be hot so it does not burn, and two drops of it can be applied with a spoon or an ear dropper inside the ear.

    Garlic Remedy

    • Garlic is a natural antibiotic that can help with an ear infection. Cut a fresh garlic clove in half and squeeze the juice of each directly into your ear.

Or, wrap a fresh piece of garlic into a cotton ball and dip it into alcohol. Squeeze excess alcohol out with your fingers and place the ball into your ear. This remedy can remain in your ear for several hours until you feel relief.

    Ear Drop Remedies

    • Inner earaches can be caused by water that has not drained, built-up ear wax or inflammation. Treat these by applying drops that will help dissolve ear wax, reduce inflammation or help water drain.

Apply two drops of hydrogen peroxide in the aching ear and gently massage by pressing a finger against the outside of your ear.

An onion juice remedy can help relieve pain as well. Warm up sliced onions and water on the stove. Two drops of warm onion juice should be applied with an ear dropper into the problem ear.

    Hot Compress

    • A hot compress against your ear can help reduce pain. Pour hot water into a water bottle. Wrap the hot bottle into a kitchen towel and hold closely against your ear for relief.
