Home Remedy for Ear Impacted Wax Removal

Earwax, despite sometimes being annoying if it plugs the ear or blocks the eardrum, is actually beneficial to your ears. It blocks foreign objects from entering into the ear and can prevent ear infections. Impacted earwax can be dangerous if it reaches the eardrum and can cause fluid buildup in the ear. You will then need to see your doctor to have the ear drained. If your ear is not infected, however, you can clear earwax buildup from your ear at home, with a few items from around the house and your local drugstore.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Distilled Water

• Make a solution of 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 1 part distilled water in a drinking glass. Make about 1 cup total of the solution. Using a funnel, gently pour a small amount of the solution into your ear. Hold your other ear to your shoulder to keep the afflicted ear in an upright position. Stay in this position for 1 minute, and then pour out the solution by holding your ear upside-down over the sink. Some earwax should come out with the solution. Continue funneling the solution into your ear until there is no more excess earwax coming out with the solution, or there is no more solution left. At-Home Ear Irrigation Kit

• You can purchase an at-home ear irrigation kit at your local drugstore or grocery store. Usually, the kit will contain earwax clearing solution, usually containing hydrogen peroxide, and an ear plunger that is usually made of plastic. The plunger can be filled with solution, and then squeezed to release the solution into the ear in a high-pressure stream. Follow the directions on the side of the kit, which will usually instruct you to leave the solution in your ear for at least 1 minute. Then pour the solution out by shaking your ear upside-down above the sink. Repeat until all the earwax has been removed. If earwax cannot be dislodged, contact your doctor, who will squeeze a syringe of warm water into your ear to remove it.
