Before modern medicine, an individual had to use natural cures to ease suffering from some common ailments, one of which is an earache. There is one herbal remedy for an earache and one must, as always, take precautionary measures and consult a doctor if the earache does not improve.-
Garlic as a cure for earache

Garlic, can surprisingly, fight many infections. Capsules taken once a day can improve the immune system and have a positive effect on memory and learning as well. If an oil is made from garlic, then gently dropped in the ear canal and rubbed, it will ease earache pain and possibly stop the infection completely.
Chamomile as a cure for earache

Chamomile not only has calming properties, and is used to treat anxiety and ease pains, it can also help with earache. When a lotion or oil is made from the flowers, it can be rubbed along the inside of the ear only, or the outside of the ear, to ease skin discomfort from "cauliflower" ear or rash.
Vinegar as a cure for earache

Vinegar, known for its antibacterial and antibiotic properties, can also be used to treat an earache, especially if it comes from having an influx of bacteria in the ear canal, also known as swimmer's ear. Homemade drops can be made with one part vinegar to one part rubbing alcohol. These drops should go inside the ear and are dispensed three or four drops at a time.
Basil as a cure for earache

Basil, which has been known to help with congestion troubles, also works for easing pain in ears following the onset of an earache. Once the whole basil is ground, mix it with olive or mineral oil, then strain. The resulting oil can be placed inside the ear and using three to four drops at a time can also take ear pain away.
Echinacea as a cure for earache

Echinacea has been known for its healing properties and is used as a defense against the common cold. This herb can also help protect and will ease the discomfort from ear pain. This herb is usually found in pill or tablet form, but can only be taken internally. If not consumed in pills, it can be steeped and drank in a tea.
Witchhazel as a cure for earache

Witch-hazel, known for its strong anti-inflammatory properties, has been used to treat swollen hands and when combined with goldenseal in a tea form can be put onto a cotton swap and used on the outside of the ear easing swelling and pressure, therefore resulting in diminished pain from earache and especially swimmer's ear.
