How to Insert a Hearing Aid

If you've just bought a hearing aid, you may be very excited. But, at first, it can appear to be confusing to insert it into your ear. Many people are very excited about putting it in for the first time and may not do it correctly. You always want to make sure that you are not harming yourself or damaging the hearing aid.

Instructions

    • 1

Check that the hearing aid is intact and that the gain is turned down all the way to the lowest level. This is an extremely important step when inserting a hearing aid, so you don't experience noisy feedback while putting it in.

    • 2

Hold the hearing aid between your thumb and index finger. Be careful not to do any damage to the hearing aid.

    • 3

Slide the hearing aid into your ear gently with the gain facing up. Start over if it becomes uncomfortable. Be careful with this step and go slowly. The hearing aid needs to be intact for it to be placed in your ear correctly.

    • 4

Finish inserting it into your ear and adjust it for comfort.

    • 5

Test the hearing aid by pushing the "Power" button to turn it on. Adjust the volume knob on the unit. Make sure that everything works correctly.
