Ear Ringing Remedies

Exposure to loud noise or the overuse of alcohol, caffeine or nicotine can cause ringing in the ears, also known as tinnitus. Tinnitus is caused when blood flow does not reach the ear, and can be combated with exercise, relaxation techniques and avoiding noises that may be causing the condition. In addition, some doctors believe that ginkgo biloba helps alleviate tinnitus, although there isn't enough research to confirm or deny this theory.
  1. Consumption

    • Reduce alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and aspirin consumption. These items can reduce blood flow to the ear.

    Exercise

    • Increase blood flow to the ear by exercising regularly, but avoid long periods of activities that are straining on the neck such as bicycling.

    Noise

    • Avoid noises that may be causing the ringing, using earmuffs or earplugs if necessary. Try not to focus on the sound in question.

    Relax

    • Try relaxing with activities such as yoga and meditation.

    Alternative remedies

    • Ginkgo biloba has been linked to improving ringing in the ears, although studies are not yet conclusive.
