How to Flush Out Earwax
Wax is secreted by glands in the skin to help protect ears from dirt, debris and bacteria. Typically, the wax makes its way to the opening of the ear as new wax is secreted and takes its place. This makes it possible to wash the earwax away. Some individuals produce earwax in excess and if not removed it can cause blockage and ear pain. Earwax blockage can also occur when the wax becomes impacted from using cotton swabs to clean the ear.Things You'll Need
- Eyedropper
- Baby oil
- Rubber bulb syringe
- Bowl
- Warm water
- Sink
- Towel
Instructions
-
-
1
Apply two drops of baby oil into the ear canal using an eyedropper twice per day for three days before flushing the ear out. This will help to soften the earwax for easier removal.
-
2
Fill a large bowl with warm water.
-
3
Lay a towel near the sink within arms' reach.
-
4
Fill the bulb syringe with warm water by squeezing the bulb and then placing it into the water bowl. Gently releasing the pressure on the bulb syringe, which will fill the syringe. Pull the filled syringe out of the water.
-
5
Bend over the sink with your head tilted sideways. This will help the water to drip out of the ear during the flushing process.
-
6
Position the tip of the water filled bulb syringe at the opening of your ear and depress the bulb. This will disperse the water into the ear and flush the earwax out into the sink.
-
7
Continue refilling the bulb syringe with warm water and gently flushing the ear until all earwax is removed.
-
8
Use the towel to dry your ear thoroughly.
