How to Clean an ITE Hearing Aid

Hearing aids are used for improving hearing when there are hearing problems. There are a few different types of hearing aids, which are named according to the way they fit the ear. In-the-ear, or ITE, hearing aids are small hearing aids placed directly into the ear. They do not go deep in the ear, so cleaning them is relatively simple.

Instructions

Remove the hearing aid at night and look for any earwax. While this hearing aid is not deep in the ear like other hearing aid options, it does sometimes get wax on it. Always look for wax before cleaning.

    • 2

Wipe down the hearing aid with a soft cloth. If there is wax, take extra time to wipe off and remove the wax.

    • 3

Use the loop tool to remove any stubborn wax on the hearing aid. These usually come with the hearing aid, and directions will differ depending on the specific in-the-ear hearing aid design. Usually, the loop tool gets into the hard-to-reach areas to remove the wax buildup.

Allow the hearing aid to dry overnight. Leave it out of the ear and on a stand or safe location for drying.
