How to Get Rid of Built Up Ear Wax

Ear wax may be something unpleasant to look at, but it is very useful in the health of the ear. Ear wax is a natural ear cleaner, as it removes debris from the ear and keeps the canal clean. However, too much ear wax can be a problem. If too much ear wax is being produced, it can lead to an ear wax blockage in the ear. If the blockage is not taken care of in a timely fashion, earaches or ear infections can occur. Here's how you can get rid of ear wax buildup.

Instructions

    • 1
Wipe the outer portion of the ear with a wet washcloth.

Wrap a warm, wet washcloth around your forefinger, and gently wipe the outer portion of your ear. The wax from inside your ear slowly comes out and accumulates in the outer portion of the ear. Once the wax gets to this point, it can be easily removed.

    • 2

Place several drops of an over-the-counter ear wax removal solution into your ear. Let the drops sit in your ear for several minutes, then tilt your head to the other side to let the drops drain out.

    • 3

Fill up a bulb syringe with warm water. Tilt your head to one side, and gently place the bulb syringe into your lower ear, with the tip just outside of the ear canal.

    • 4

Squeeze the bulb syringe so the water flows into your ear canal. The warm water will loosen up the ear wax so it is easier to remove. The wax should come out as the water drains from your ear.

    • 5

Take the syringe out of your ear, and let the water drain completely out of your ear. You may have to grab your ear lobe and gently move it around so the water can come out.

Repeat these steps on the other ear if needed.
