How to Remove Wax With Debrox
Earwax is primarily made up of fat and dead skin cells. A small amount of wax is needed in the ear as it helps block dirt and other debris that might otherwise make its way into the ear. An excessive buildup of wax --- also known as an impaction --- occurs when poor ear cleaning methods are used, such as cotton swabs. Debrox can soften earwax, which in turn makes it easier to remove. This liquid medication can be bought over-the-counter and typically resolves the problem in less than four days.Things You'll Need
- Cotton ball
- Bulb ear syringe
- Water
Instructions
-
-
1
Tilt your head sideways or lie on your side so your ear canal points straight up in the air.
-
2
Pull your earlobe up and toward the back of your head to straighten out the canal. If using Debrox on a child, pull the earlobe down and toward the back of the head. Do not pull so hard that it causes discomfort as minimal force is needed to straighten the canal.
-
3
Drop five to 10 drops of Debrox in the ear canal.
-
4
Keep your head tilted for at least five minutes to ensure the Debrox does not drip out. If you must have your head in a straight-up position for any reason, gently put a cotton ball in your ear to prevent leakage.
-
5
Fill a bulb ear syringe with warm water after the five-minute period. Tilt your head sideways and squirt the water in your ear. Tilt your head the other way to let the water drain out.
-
6
Repeat the process twice per day for four days.
