Instructions for Earwax Removal by Syringe

Earwax is a natural and healthy substance found in your inner and outer ear that protects your ear from foreign particles. If earwax buildup causes hearing loss or dizziness, you can easily remove wax at home with an ear syringe and a damp washcloth. You should use an ear syringe rather than a cotton swab to remove routine earwax, as swabs can push wax deeper into your ear canal and lead to impaction.

Instructions

    • 1

Combine equal parts warm water and hydrogen peroxide.

    • 2

Fill your ear syringe with the hydrogen peroxide and water solution.

    • 3

While you lie on your side with your afflicted ear facing up, use the syringe to squirt the solution directly into your ear.

    • 4

Stay on your side with your afflicted ear facing up for approximately 15 minutes. The water and hydrogen peroxide solution will cause a bubbling sound in your ear as it loosens your earwax. When the bubbling stops, the solution has finished working.

    • 5

Place a clean towel over your ear and roll over so your afflicted ear now faces down. Allow the solution and excess earwax to drain out of your ear.

    • 6

Repeat Steps 2 through 5 as needed.

    • 7

Using a damp washcloth, gently cleanse the excess fluid and wax from your outer ear.
