    • Two types of sound masking are interior and exterior sound masking. Interior sound masking is used indoors, most commonly in an office setting. This is when a calming sound is produced to block out outside noise. Sound masking may also be used in a work environment to ease stress and distraction. Exterior sound masking include things like waterfalls and music machines used outdoors to mask the sounds of cars, machinery, etc.

    • There are many benefits to masking exterior sounds. Masking unwanted sounds in the workplace can produce happier and more productive workers. Sound masking in public places can make people less irritable and more pleasant. Blocking out disturbing or loud sounds can provide a more serene environment whether it be outdoors or indoors.
