Symptoms Yeast Infections in the Ear

Yeast infections of the ear occur more commonly in children than adults. They are often due to excessive moisture getting trapped in the ear. Due to the ear's structure, such infections may be more difficult to treat than yeast infections in other locations.
  1. Itching or Burning

    • A yeast infection may produce itching or a burning sensation inside the ear that is difficult to reach. You may see a child frequently scratching or rubbing his ears.

    Discharge

    • Like other yeast infections, those in the ear will produce a yellow or white discharge that may or may not have an offensive odor. This discharge may form crust in the ear or ear lobe.

    Dulled Hearing

    • With the presence of an obstacle such as yeast, hearing may become temporarily dull. A child who suddenly seems to be hard of hearing may be battling an ear yeast infection.

    Pain

    • If the ear becomes particularly full, the debris might place pressure on the rest of the ear, resulting in pain not unlike other types of ear infections.

    Rash or Redness

    • A rash or redness within and around the ear may be the product of the irritant yeast, inflammation or a child's persistent scratching.
