Using a Wax Loop
-
1
Clean your hearing aid after you take it out of your ear. Any earwax will still be moist and easier to remove. Start by wiping the outside of your Starkey hearing aid off with a dry, soft tissue.
-
2
Hold your hearing aid in your hand with the canal portion facing you. Looking at the canal portion, which is the end that inserts into your ear, you should see one or two tiny holes. You may also see a manufacturers wax guard. A wax guard is a small device placed over the receiver hole to keep earwax out.
-
3
Use your Starkey stick wax loop to scrape off any visible earwax sitting just on the outside of the holes. If your hearing aid has a wax guard, scrape any visible wax off of your wax guard.
Wax guards must be regularly changed every two to four weeks. Your hearing health care provider can give you a supply of wax guards and teach you how to change them at home.
-
4
Gently insert the stick wax loop no more than ¼ inch into the hearing aid receiver hole. Gently twist the wax loop tool making a circular motion inside the opening.
Only do this in open holes, not holes covered by a wax guard.
-
5
Pull the wax loop out and wipe any debris on a tissue.
-
6
Repeat this process two to three times in each hole on the canal end of your hearing aid.
-
7
When finished with the stick wax loop, use the soft brush to gently brush over your entire hearing aid.
