How to Keep Sentry 11 Wax Guards From Falling Out

Wax guards are small plugs inserted into hearing devices to prevent debris and wax from reaching the internal components of the device. Sentry II wax guards are used in Beltone hearing devices in the completely-in-the-canal (CIC) and mini-canal (MC) models. Proper maintenance is required to ensure the wax guards remain intact and do not fall out into the ear canal. Displaced guards can cause injury and infection in the ear canal. Beltone recommends the wax guards be changed every two weeks to ensure long life of hearing devices.

Set the necessary items on a flat work surface. Place a towel under the items to prevent them from rolling off.

    • 2

Use your thumb and forefinger to gently pull the hearing device from each ear. Some instruments have thin cords attached to the device specifically for assistance in the removal process. Do not remove the device by pulling on the battery door.

    • 3

Slide the forked end of the tool under the wax guard and pull upward to remove the wax guard. The forked tool is included in the tool care set provided with each set of hearing devices.

    • 4

Select a wax guard from the card. The red colored wax guards are intended for use in the right device and the blue colored wax guards are intended for use in the left device.

    • 5

Remove the wax guard from the front side of the card using the opposite end of the forked device which contains a "nub." The front side of the card is indicated by colored arrows.
