What Causes Nervousness & Dizziness?

Nervousness and dizziness are conditions caused by a sudden change in body functions that upsets the balance of the body. Most often these conditions are caused by a temporary change in blood flow or an imbalance of the inner ear. Though it is normal to occasionally experience these conditions, persistent feelings of nervousness or dizziness may indicate a hidden problem in your body that you should have a medical doctor investigate.
  1. Vertigo

    • Vertigo can cause a very dangerous situation for the sufferer.

Vertigo is a condition that is caused by problems with the nerves found near the inner ear. When these nerves are functioning incorrectly, the sufferer will experience radical equilibrium changes due to an imbalance brought on by misfiring of the nerves. The nerves affect the balance mechanism in the ear, causing the person to have feelings of imbalance, and nausea and vomiting if the problem is too severe.

    Presyncope

    • Problems with your heart should be taken very seriously.

Presyncope, or the feeling of faintness, is one condition that must be monitored properly to determine the seriousness of the medical condition. Feeling faint is caused by changes in blood pressure, which can happen if you sit or stand up too quickly. However, diseases concerning the heart can also cause you to feel faint, so if your faintness happens often and without cause, speak to a doctor about your condition.

    Disequilibrium

    • Sit down if you cannot keep your balance.

Clumsiness can cause you to lose your balance; however, if you suffer from disequilibrium, you most likely have another problem that causes you to sway when you stand. Inner-ear problems, nerve and tissue damage and other physical ailments can result in loss of balance. There are also medications prescribed by your doctor that can cause you to feel unbalanced. Most importantly, loss of balance can indicate the beginnings of a neurological disorder if it occurs frequently.

    Nervousness

    • Being nervous means you are most likely experiencing something new.

Nervousness has little to do with the physical nervous system and more with the mental state of the person. People feel nervous when they encounter a situation that is unfamiliar to them and they do not know how to properly react. Nervousness can be a result of the anxiety caused by an existing medical condition, but nervousness can also happen because of everyday situations.
